Eagles Land in Jacksonville: Behind two touchdown passes from Donovan McNabb to Chad Lewis and a defense that grounded Michael Vick, Philadelphia defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 27-10, and will play in Super Bowl XXXIX. This will probably be a good two weeks for the Philly's Finest restaurant in Jacksonville Beach.
Nice game, Iggles! Them got some good defense, huh?

p.s. I think the NFC edged the AFC this year for Poorest Rendition of the National Anthem. It wasn't a blowout, but...I sure hope that singer at the NFC game was somebody important's kid, that's all I can say.

The Eagles' punter had some great kicks into the wind, which really helped their field position. I don't like his end-zone celebrations, but I liked Terrell Owens' rooting for his team and leading the fans' cheers. And he looked pretty spry; I bet he plays in the Super Bowl.

I sure hope that singer at the NFC game was somebody important's kid, that's all I can say. Not sure if you noticed the adult holding him up or the grown men around him crying, but I'm fairly certain the kid has some horrible disease that's left him half-crippled (he was carried off the field and propped up while on it). Thus the deep breaths during the anthem. If it were up to me, I'd take kids authentically singing their hearts out over the latest "Arista recording artist So-and-so" every day of the week and twice on Sunday. So this Sunday worked out well.

yerfatma, no, I didn't see the beginning, only heard it from the other room. So the AFC wins for Poorest Rendition, given that their, uh, render had all the necessary hardware to do a much better job. (best anthem I ever saw was done by an approx. 11-year-old member of the Harlem Boys' Choir)

Timmy Kelly is blind and has mild cerebal palsy, according to one of the stories written about him, but he's in regular schools and can reportedly belt out the song. I think he faltered today because of the bitter cold, and hearing him chug through it anyway was one of the more moving versions of that wretched song.

WHO WAS THE LITTLE GIRL SINGING THE ANTHEM B4 THE AFC GAME? SHE WAS FANTASTIC.

She was godawful. In all caps. (I can't wait for the auditory treats we're gonna get at the Super Bowl...)

She was godawful. In all caps. Don't hate the player, hate the game. The song, as rcade mentioned, sucks. It's also very difficult to sing properly. I dunno where you're getting the idea she stunk: my SO, who is my resource on all things vocalized* as a singer herself, asked "Why isn't this girl on American Idol?" She then answered herself with "Probably doesn't want to get ripped off by Simon Cowell." Given the conditions and the stage, I think both kids did an amazing job. I'd rather have either one back than whomever will be doing the SB anthem. * Suggestive phrasing intentional.

lil brown bat you the kind of person who criticizes everyone else when the real feeling of inadequacy is in the mirror. the only thing GODAWFUL (in all caps!) is your self esteem.

I missed the NFC singer, but I thought the little girl did a good job before the AFC game. I guess it's all a matter of opinion anyway. So now we have two weeks of media blitz before the big game. rcade, maybe you can supply us with some local knowledge from JAX.

lil brown, dude, that is wrong, the kid is an inspiration. He went blind at three months old and he has cerebral palsy. Yet he continues to strive living a "normal life." It's not the first time he's sung there, and the troops and eagles love that kid. That boy showed more heart out there belting out that national anthem in 5 degree weather than Michael Vick did the entire second half.

I missed the singing in question, but rosey is dead right about the Falcons in the second half. Most of the people I watched the game with thought that the Falcons looked like they gave up mid-way through the third quarter. To bad too, the first half was a fun and somewhat even affair.

lil brown, dude, that is wrong, the kid is an inspiration. Rosey, dude, if you check your references you'll see that I was posting about the young woman who sang the anthem to start off the AFC game, not the kid who sang the anthem before the NFC game. Please holster your weapon or aim it elsewhere.

I am glad for Andy Reid to get that monkey off his back. He seems to be a quality guy who is able to create loyalty between coaches and players. It is going to be fun to watch the eagles defense against the Pats offense. Trotter just blows up running plays. lil brown bat-- shame on you for knocking the child who sang the National Anthem. I agree with rosey..the kid is an INSPIRATION.

For a second there I thought you were all talking about Carl Lewis (don't know if the link works, I don't have speakers at work, or sound at all apparently) singing the national anthem... can't we all just get along?

can't be too hard on the kids, especially the kid in Philly, he looked like he was freezing his ass off, I'll save my hatred for the "professional" forget-the-words-type-singers...the Michael Boltons, etc.

Sorry, haven't visited in a bit, but lil' brown, I DID read the thread, I was referring to comment #3... p.s. I think the NFC edged the AFC this year for Poorest Rendition of the National Anthem. If it's a typo fine, otherwise check what you write before you comment.

There's only been one team in the NFC that was Super Bowl caliber this season, so it should come as no surprise that they're coming down here to Jacksonville. Still, I half-expected another chumpionship game performance from the Iggles.
